[07-21-2026] Los Angeles County, CA – One Killed in Wrong-Way Crash on Northbound 405 Freeway in Hawthorne

One person was killed in a crash reportedly involving a wrong-way driver on the northbound 405 Freeway in Hawthorne on Tuesday morning, July 21, 2026.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred just before 1 a.m. at Rosecrans Avenue.

At least one other person was transported to a hospital, though their condition has not been released.

All northbound lanes were temporarily shut down while crews responded to the scene. The freeway was fully reopened by 5 a.m.

The CHP continues to investigate the circumstances of the incident.
