A 22-year-old male rider was seriously injured after a motorcycle vs. vehicle collision in San Diego on Sunday night, July 21, 2024.
According to the San Diego Police Department, the traffic crash happened at about 8:33 p.m. along Grand Avenue in the Pacific Beach neighborhood.
SDPD said the 22-year-old man was riding a 2007 Suzuki motorcycle eastbound on Grand Avenue when he entered the bicycle lane to pass through stopped traffic. At the same time, a 33-year-old man driving a 2020 Jeep Cherokee was heading west on the same roadway when he started turning southbound at the intersection.
The Jeep reportedly broadsided the motorcycle, leading to serious injuries for the rider and apparent crash damage to both vehicles.
SDPD then confirmed that the male motorcyclist fractured his left shinbone and calf bone as a result of the incident. The rider’s name and current status were not released at the time of writing.
No word yet on whether the Jeep driver was injured. It is also not immediately known if they remained at the scene.
Drugs, alcohol, and speeding are currently being investigated as possible factors in the collision.
The authorities will provide additional information as the investigation progresses.
