Four people were killed after a suspected multi-vehicle DUI collision in Kearny Mesa, San Diego, on early Friday morning, July 19, 2024.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal crash happened around 1:30 a.m. along southbound SR-163 just after the transition from southbound Interstate 805.
Authorities stated that three unspecified vehicles were involved in the collision. Details on how the incident occurred were not clear, but CHP said that at least two people were ejected from their vehicles. Four people, whose identities were not released, were confirmed dead at the scene following the crash.
Meanwhile, two people were arrested and taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence. Their names, ages, and genders have yet to be released once they become available.
The southbound SR-163, between Genesee Avenue and the transition to I-805, was closed due to the emergency response and investigation. The traffic was being diverted onto I-805.
