According to the California Highway Patrol, the massive crash happened around 5:20 p.m. along Highway 101 just south of Highway 46.

CHP stated that the crash site was located on the southbound side of the highway, next to the Target shopping center. The total number of vehicles involved was not disclosed, but reports suggest that the incident could be a six-vehicle crash.

Ambulances were called to the scene to render aid to the people affected. The extent of the possible injuries sustained and the number of people hurt were not immediately available. CHP later confirmed that no major injuries were reported.

At about 5:33 p.m., one of the vehicles involved was said to be fully engulfed in flames, while another was still on fire. Responding firefighters were able to contain the fire around 5:45 p.m.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation. The possibility of alcohol or drug impairment as a factor is still unclear.
