One person was killed, while another was injured after a two-vehicle collision near Hanford on Thursday morning, July 18, 2024.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal incident occurred around 5:00 a.m. at the 6th Avenue and Highway 198 intersection, right of Hanford and just south of the Remnoy neighborhood.

Officers said that a 25-year-old man driving a Chevrolet Silverado southbound on 6th Avenue stopped at the stop sign at the intersection with Highway 198. As he made his way through the intersection, an eastbound silver Honda Accord struck his Chevy, causing both vehicles to overturn due to the impact.

It is said that the Chevy fell into an irrigation canal, where it came to rest with its right passenger side partially submerged. Meanwhile, the Honda reportedly flipped several times before landing in a dirt lot on the other side of the highway from where it was.

CHP later confirmed that the Honda driver, a 21-year-old man, died as a result of the crash, while the 25-year-old Chevy driver survived with minor injuries and was taken to Kaweah Health Medical Center for further medical care. Authorities have yet to release the names of both drivers involved.

The official cause of the collision is still under investigation. Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor.

The investigation into the incident by the CHP is underway.
