Two adults were killed and a child was seriously injured in a head-on collision involving a wrong-way driver on Highway 89 near Redding on Sunday, July 27, 2025.
According to reports, Eric and Nancy M. were traveling with their 11-year-old granddaughter, Yvette V., when a vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with them head-on. The California Highway Patrol responded to the scene along with emergency medical services.
Eric and Nancy were pronounced deceased shortly after the crash. Yvette survived the collision but sustained serious injuries, including lacerations to her kidneys and spleen, a broken shoulder, and other trauma. She was airlifted to Dignity Health Mercy Medical Center in Redding and underwent multiple surgeries.
Members of the Redrum Motorcycle Club, who were traveling on the same route, witnessed the crash and assisted immediately. One of the first responders, a trained paramedic, provided life-saving aid until emergency crews arrived.
The identity of the wrong-way driver has not been released. Both Yvette and the other driver survived the crash. The cause of the collision is under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
Authorities continue to investigate the crash.
