A bicyclist was killed after being struck by a vehicle in San Diego on Wednesday morning, July 17, 2024.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal accident occurred shortly before 9:30 a.m. at the intersection of Interstate 15 and State Route 56 in Carmel Mountain Ranch.
There is no clear explanation yet as to how the vehicle vs. bicycle crash occurred at the freeway interchange. The make or model of the vehicle involved and its number of occupants at the time of the accident are also currently undisclosed.
The biker, whose name, age, and gender weren’t available yet, died as a result of the collision. It is not immediately known if the driver of the vehicle involved remained at the scene. No other injuries were reported at the time of writing.
CHP has blocked off westbound SR-56 around the crash site, resulting in heavy traffic delays for other motorists passing through the area.
No further information was provided. The CHP is still investigating the factors that may have contributed to the deadly incident.
