[07-17-2024] Kern County, CA – One Person Killed, Four Others Injured Following Single-Vehicle Rollover Crash on Copus Road

One person was killed, and four others were injured following a single-vehicle rollover crash near Bakersfield on Wednesday morning, July 17, 2024. 

According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened around 6:04 a.m. on Copus Road, west of Byron Road. 

Authorities stated that a Toyota with five occupants was traveling westbound on Copus Road. For unknown reasons, the driver, whose name, age, and gender were not immediately disclosed, veered off to the right causing the vehicle to leave the roadway, crashed into an embankment, and overturned. 

One of the passengers, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, was ejected from the car and pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the deceased was not disclosed as of this writing.

At the same time, four other people inside the car sustained minor injuries. There is no word yet on their current condition or if any of them were transported to the hospital. 

Drugs, alcohol, and speeding were being investigated as possible factors contributing to the crash. 

No further information was released. The investigators are gathering all the necessary details to determine the cause of the collision.
