A man was hospitalized following a pedestrian vs. vehicle collision in Long Beach early Monday morning, July 15, 2024.
According to the Long Beach Fire Department, the incident occurred at about 12:42 a.m. in the area of Willow Street east of the Long Beach (710) Freeway.
Initial investigation suggested that an unspecified vehicle driven by a female adult was going west on Willow Street when the male pedestrian suddenly entered the roadway from the north. This resulted in a collision wherein the man got stuck underneath the vehicle.
Upon arrival, responders pulled the man out from beneath the car that struck him. He survived and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment after sustaining serious injuries to his upper body. As of this writing, the pedestrian is in stable condition.
No word yet on whether anyone from the vehicle involved was injured and no one has been publicly identified.
The authorities are still investigating the official cause of the accident. Driver impairment and distracted driving are not believed to be possible factors.
