Published July 8, 2024

At least one person was killed after a multi-vehicle crash involving several semi-trucks near Pasadena late Wednesday night, July 3, 2024.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the massive collision happened at about 11:45 p.m. on the westbound Foothill (210) Freeway and Madre Street.

Upon arriving at the scene, CHP officers found a sedan and two semi-trucks blocking the middle lanes of the 210 Freeway. They also reported several other damaged vehicles around the area, including a white Honda Civic and a UPS truck.

It is then said that one of the vehicles involved ended up on a hillside with an occupant still stuck inside. Responding firefighters were able to free that person and quickly took them to a nearby hospital for treatment. However, the victim was pronounced dead at the facility shortly after.

Further information about the identity of the deceased, including their name, age, and gender, wasn’t disclosed yet. At the time of writing, no other injuries or fatalities were reported.

Video taken from the scene showed oil leaking onto the freeway and large chunks of concrete scattered across its lanes. As a precaution, CHP blocked all westbound freeway lanes near the North Michilinda Avenue off-ramp in Arcadia.

Additional details were not immediately available, and the authorities are still gathering all the necessary information to determine the circumstances surrounding the massive freeway incident.

An investigation is underway.
