A male pedestrian was found dead after a hit-and-run collision southwest of Bakersfield on Tuesday morning, July 2, 2024.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the victim’s body was reported around 11:50 a.m. on the right shoulder of Interstate 5, south of Highway 223.
Preliminary investigation suggested that the victim, only identified as a male, was on northbound I-5 when he was struck by an unknown vehicle for some reason before it fled the scene. It is believed that the victim pulled himself to the right shoulder of the freeway to nurse his injuries but died shortly after.
The official time of the crash and the circumstances surrounding it were not immediately known. Authorities have also yet to release a description of the suspect or the vehicle involved.
CHP is still investigating the cause of the accident and whether alcohol or drugs played a role in it.
