[06-30-2024] Kern County, CA - One Person Killed After Hit-And-Run Collision near Mt. Vernon Avenue and East California AvenueOne person was killed after a hit-and-run collision in east Bakersfield on Sunday afternoon, June 30, 2024. 

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened at about 2:21 p.m. near the intersection of Mt. Vernon Avenue and East California Avenue.

Authorities stated that a hit-and-run collision was reported on Mt. Vernon Avenue. Following the collision, one of the drivers of the involved cars left the scene. A passenger in the struck car attempted but was unable to stop the suspect vehicle.

The passenger was eventually declared deceased at Kern Medical, however the specifics of the crash were not immediately revealed. As of this writing, it remained unclear how many persons were involved overall. The type and model of the suspected vehicle, as well as the identity of the suspect, are still unknown.
