Three people were killed, while two others were injured, including a child, after a suspected DUI car crash in Monterey Park early Friday morning, June 28, 2024.

According to the Monterey Park Police Department, the violent collision happened at about 12:34 a.m. around East Graves Avenue and Cecil Street.

The incident involved a black SUV that struck multiple parked vehicles and a power pole before coming to a rest on its roof after rolling over. The crash was so devastating that one passenger got ejected and was found dead on the roof of a nearby home.

Three passengers in total were killed in the accident, including the person who was ejected. Two people survived: the driver and a 7-year-old child. The injuries the two survivors sustained weren’t disclosed, but police confirmed that they were taken to the hospital for treatment.

The driver of the black SUV told police that five people were in the vehicle when the incident happened. Only the child was wearing a seatbelt at that time. At this time, none of the five people involved in the accident were publicly identified.

MPPD is still investigating the cause of the violent crash. Currently, they believe that the driver was driving under the influence and was probably speeding. No arrests have been made yet.

East Graves Avenue was blocked off for about three blocks going in both directions while the authorities investigated and cleared the scene.

Additional information was not immediately available. The investigation is ongoing.
