A 35-year-old man was killed, and two others were injured following a two-vehicle crash involving a big rig in Merced County on Friday night, June 27, 2025.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 8:00 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 59 and Sandy Mush Road.
A 29-year-old man from San Mateo was driving a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado eastbound on Sandy Mush Road when he failed to stop at a posted stop sign.
At the same time, a 59-year-old man operating a 2024 Freightliner semi-truck was traveling northbound on Highway 59 at approximately 55 mph. The semi-truck collided with the passenger side of the Chevrolet as it entered the intersection.
Both the driver and the passenger of the Silverado were trapped in the vehicle and required extrication by emergency crews. The passenger suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Silverado and the semi-truck driver sustained moderate injuries and were taken to nearby hospitals.
The crash remains under investigation by CHP.
