A rider was killed after a bicycle vs. vehicle collision in Placer County on early Thursday morning, June 27, 2024. 

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 1:52 a.m. on Highway 174 between Hill Drive and the Red Frog Bar, north of Colfax. 

Authorities stated that a man riding on a bike was struck by a pickup truck. The driver of the vehicle told the police they did not see the cyclist as the victim was not wearing any reflectors and had dark clothing on. 

The victim sustained major injuries and was transported to the hospital, where he died. Meanwhile, the pickup driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation Details on the identities of the people involved were not immediately disclosed. 

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, but DUI does not appear as a factor in the incident.
