A man died after being struck by an alleged drunk driver while riding an electric scooter in San Jose on Saturday, June 26, 2025.
According to the San Jose Police Department, the collision occurred just before 5:00 p.m. in the westbound lanes of Capitol Expressway, west of Tuers Road.
Investigators stated that the driver of a 2005 Chevy Astro van veered into the bike lane and struck the victim.
After the crash, the driver attempted to flee the scene but was stopped by responding officers. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries and succumbed to those injuries on Monday. His identity has not yet been released.
The driver, who has not been identified, was arrested and booked into the Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and driving under the influence.
Authorities continue to investigate the crash.
