According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened shortly after 1:00 a.m. on San Luis Bay Drive near Sparrow Street.

The circumstances surrounding the incident were not immediately known, but the authorities stated that only one vehicle was involved. Two people, identified only as males, were the occupants of the vehicle. Both of them were reportedly wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. 

The driver sustained major injuries and was transported to the hospital, while his passenger was pronounced dead after the crash. Police said that the driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. 

It is unknown how the crash happened. Additional details regarding the incident have yet to be released once they are available.
