A 71-year-old male pedestrian was killed after getting hit by a vehicle in Antioch on Sunday night, June 23, 2024.
According to the Antioch Police Department, the fatal collision happened at about 10:33 p.m. along Lone Tree Way near Black Diamond Drive.
Upon arrival, police found the elderly victim, only described as a 71-year-old man from Antioch, with severe injuries. Responders quickly administered life-saving measures to him but proved unsuccessful. The man was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after.
Initial investigations suggest that the pedestrian was walking through the crosswalk against the “don’t walk” signal when the accident happened. The victim’s identity is being withheld pending the notification of the next of kin.
The driver of the vehicle that struck the victim stayed on the scene and cooperated with the police. There is no word yet on whether or not the driver, whose name, age, and gender remain unknown, was injured.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation. As of now, police are ruling out the possible involvement of drugs or alcohol.
