A man riding a bicycle was killed in a crash along Highway 84 in Newark on Sunday afternoon, June 22, 2025.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. on the eastbound lanes of Highway 84, just west of Interstate 880.
Authorities said the 43-year-old bicyclist was riding westbound against traffic along the center median when vehicles abruptly stopped for unknown reasons.
To avoid a collision with another vehicle, a driver swerved into the center median and struck the bicyclist head-on.
The victim was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. His identity has not yet been released, pending notification of his family.
CHP reported that the driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. Drugs or alcohol are not believed to be contributing factors.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
