[06-21-2025] One Killed, Two Injured After Hit-and-Run and Fiery Crash on Baker StreetOne person was killed and two others were hospitalized following a sequence of crashes in east Bakersfield on Saturday evening, June 21, 2025.

According to the Bakersfield Police Department, the initial incident occurred at around 6:02 p.m. when a hit-and-run involving a pedestrian was reported at the intersection of Baker Street and Sumner Street.

While officers were en route to that scene, another crash was reported at Baker Street and Niles Street.

Upon arrival at the first scene, authorities found a male pedestrian down in the roadway with life-threatening injuries. He was transported to a nearby hospital.

At the second crash site, officers found two vehicles severely damaged and fully engulfed in flames. One male driver was pronounced dead at the scene, while the second male driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital.

Preliminary investigations indicate the surviving driver was traveling north on Baker Street, struck the pedestrian at Sumner Street, and continued at high speed before running a red light at Niles Street, where he crashed into another vehicle.

Toxicology results are pending to determine if impairment was a factor in the collision.
