[06-19-2024] One Person Hospitalized After Vehicle Crashed Into Overturned Box Truck Near NicolausOne person was hospitalized after a vehicle crashed into an overturned box truck in Sutter County early Wednesday morning, June 19, 2024.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the highway incident happened at about 2:24 a.m. at the split between Highway 70 and Highway 99 near Nicolaus.

It all started when a box truck carrying a load of furniture overturned for still-unknown reasons along Highway 70. The truck ended up on its side and blocked oncoming traffic. Moments later, another vehicle collided with the overturned truck.

The driver of the other vehicle that hit the truck had reportedly suffered major injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The name, age, and gender of the injured driver were not released at this time.

Meanwhile, the crashed box truck driver appeared uninjured and remained on the scene to cooperate with the authorities.

Other motorists trying to pass through the area were forced to detour on Striplin Road for a few hours while the authorities cleared the scene. The road was reportedly reopened at around 6:00 a.m.

The accident, as a whole, is still under investigation. There is no word yet on whether alcohol or drug impairment is considered a possible factor in the collision.
