[06-18-2024] Male Passenger Killed, Driver Injured After Car Crash Involving DUI in Del MarA male passenger was killed while his driver was injured after a car crash involving DUI in Del Mar late Tuesday night, June 18, 2024.

According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, the vehicular incident occurred just before midnight in the 2000 block of Coast Boulevard.

Responding deputies said that a 2019 Maserati Gran Turismo occupied by a female driver and a male passenger crashed into a tree and a parked Dodge Ram. The Maserati was reportedly traveling northbound on Coast Boulevard at an unknown rate of speed when it left the road for some reason, leading to the collision.

It is said that the female driver then left the crashed Maserati and her passenger to escape but was apprehended by the authorities soon after. She was transported to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla for treatment after sustaining unknown injuries. Initial reports suggested that the driver was intoxicated at the time of the accident.

Meanwhile, the deputies found the passenger severely injured, still in his seat inside the vehicle. The medical crew on-scene rushed him to the hospital, where he died moments later. The identity of the deceased victim was not disclosed at this time.

It was confirmed that no one was inside the parked Dodge when the collision occurred.

The driver of the Maserati, whose identity remains undisclosed, is set to be booked at Las Colinas Detention and Reentry Facility after receiving treatment. She will face several charges, including felony DUI, hit-and-run, and vehicular manslaughter.
