One person was killed after a vehicle crashed into oncoming traffic near French Camp, San Joaquin County, around Sunday noon, June 16, 2024.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal accident occurred at about 12:00 p.m. in the area of Bowman Road and Manthey Road.
Investigators said that a Nissan Altima traveling at an unspecified but high rate of speed was behind a black Mazda 3 when it tried to overtake and collided with the oncoming traffic. The car then went out of control and overturned several times before coming to a rest on its tires.
The driver of the wrecked vehicle, only identified as a 31-year-old man from Stockton, was declared dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt, said the authorities.
It is unclear how many vehicles were involved in the incident. At this time, there are no other reported injuries.
The authorities are still investigating if drugs or alcohol played a role in the deadly collision.
