[06-09-2024] 19-Year-Old Driver Killed, Another Injured Following Two-vehicle Head-On Collision on Highway 113A 19-year-old driver was killed following a two-vehicle head-on collision in Sutter County on Sunday evening, June 9, 2024. 

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened on Highway 113, south of Leiser Road.

Authorities stated that a 2003 Volkswagen, driven by a 19-year-old man from Marysville, was heading north on the highway. The vehicle entered the southbound lanes and attempted to pass two other vehicles. 

As the Volkswagen entered the southbound lanes, his vehicle approached a black Mercedes traveling in the southbound lanes. The Mercedes driver, identified as a 37-year-old woman from Woodland, turned to the right while the Volkswagen swerved to the left in an attempt to avoid the crash. Still, the vehicles collided head-on, resulting in severe vehicle damage. 

Police said that the driver of the Volkswagen was pronounced dead at the scene. Meanwhile, the driver of the Mercedes was transported to the hospital with major leg injuries. 

The responding officers explained that the northbound lane is marked by a solid yellow line, and the southbound lanes are marked with broken yellow lines. Neither of the vehicles has passengers. 

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. No further information was released.
