Six people were killed after a twin-engine Cessna 414 crashed into the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Point Loma in San Diego on Sunday afternoon, June 8, 2025.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the plane went down shortly after takeoff at approximately 12:30 p.m. The aircraft was returning to Phoenix one day after departing from Arizona.
The U.S. Coast Guard reported discovering a debris field about five miles offshore from the Point Loma area, where waters reach depths of approximately 200 feet. All six people on board were confirmed dead.
The FAA stated that the plane was registered to Optimal Health Systems, though the Arizona-based company noted it had sold the aircraft to private individuals in 2023. The identities of the victims have not yet been released.
According to recorded audio from air traffic control, the pilot reported difficulty maintaining heading and altitude and was instructed to climb to 4,000 feet. The pilot eventually issued multiple “Mayday” calls before radar contact was lost.
Witnesses, including a surfer, described seeing the plane descend into the ocean after briefly climbing back into the clouds. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the incident.

What A Lawyer Can Do For You
Many victims put off calling a lawyer even if they sustain injuries after an accident. However, lawyers can help you in many ways. They can provide you with police reports, CCTV footage, and witness statements to strengthen your case. Your attorney will also negotiate with insurance companies to get you fair compensation. The best part is that they will do all of these things for you at no upfront cost. So if you’re injured in an accident, hire a personal injury attorney to recover medical bills, car repair costs, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
