[06-08-2024] Passenger Killed Following Suspected Single-Vehicle DUI Crash Near 210 FreewayA passenger was killed following a suspected single-vehicle DUI crash in San Bernardino on Saturday evening, June 8, 2024.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal accident happened around 7:40 p.m. along 30th Street near Waterman Avenue and the 210 Freeway.

Officers said that a suspected drunk driver was traveling along Waterman Avenue with a passenger inside a Mercedes-Benz SUV. It is said that the vehicle was about to head west onto the 210 Freeway when, for some reason, the driver failed to turn safely and slammed into a yellow advisory sign nearby before rolling over onto 30th Street.

Witnesses helped the two people involved in the crash while responders were on their way. Among them was Riverside County Sheriff Chad B., who was off-duty when the accident occurred. The officer performed CPR on the passenger until paramedics arrived.

The passenger, only identified as a woman, was reportedly thrown off the Mercedes while it was rolling over. She sustained severe injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital, where she later died.

The suspected drunk driver, later identified as 27-year-old Shaylee W. from San Bernardino, was arrested on suspicion of DUI causing bodily injury. There is no confirmation yet whether or not she was injured in the accident as well.
