One person was killed and another was seriously injured following a rollover crash involving a big rig on Interstate 40 near Ludlow in San Bernardino County on Thursday evening, May 29, 2025.
According to the San Bernardino County Fire Department, emergency crews responded shortly before 9:00 p.m. to a traffic collision requiring extrication in the center divider of eastbound I-40, just west of Ludlow. Firefighters arrived to find an 18-wheeler overturned with smoke coming from the vehicle.
One occupant was pronounced dead at the scene. A second adult victim remained trapped inside the wreckage. Fire crews from Helendale and Baker utilized jaws of life equipment to extricate the individual, who was then airlifted via Mercy Air helicopter to a regional trauma center.
The identity of the deceased has not been disclosed pending next-of-kin notification. The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the CHP Barstow office.
