A male bicyclist was killed following a crash involving a vehicle in Petaluma on Wednesday afternoon, May 28, 2025.
According to the Petaluma Police Department, the incident occurred around 3:00 p.m. at the intersection of S. Ely Boulevard and Capistrano Drive. Responding officers found the bicyclist had succumbed to their injuries at the scene.
Authorities reported that both the bicyclist and the driver were heading northbound on S. Ely Boulevard at the time of the collision. The identities and ages of both parties have not been disclosed. The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office is handling next-of-kin notification for the deceased.
Police stated that alcohol or drugs do not appear to be contributing factors. The driver of the Acura SUV involved remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.
The crash site included a damaged SUV with a shattered windshield and a bicycle lying nearby, indicating the force of the impact. The investigation into the cause of the fatal crash is ongoing.
