A male driver was killed while his passenger was injured following a single-vehicle crash in Riverside County on Sunday afternoon, May 26, 2024.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly incident occurred at around 3:30 p.m. along westbound Interstate 10, east of Hayfield Road.
CHP said that 40-year-old Sergio R. from Mecca was driving a Ford Ranger with a female passenger along I-10 when they had an issue with their tire and eventually lost control of the car. The car flipped and fell about 80 to 100 feet down a dirt embankment.
Sergio R. was apparently thrown off the vehicle during the crash and was fatally injured. He reportedly was not wearing a seatbelt. His passenger, meanwhile, survived the accident with only minor injuries.
The CHP closed several lanes of I-10 while they investigated and cleaned up the scene. After about an hour, all lanes were reopened.
There was no evidence of drug or alcohol impairment, said the CHP. No further information was immediately available.

What A Lawyer Can Do For You
Many victims put off calling a lawyer even if they sustain injuries after an accident. However, lawyers can help you in many ways. They can provide you with police reports, CCTV footage, and witness statements to strengthen your case. Your attorney will also negotiate with insurance companies to get you fair compensation. The best part is that they will do all of these things for you at no upfront cost. So if you’re injured in an accident, hire a personal injury attorney to recover medical bills, car repair costs, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
