[05-24-2025] Two People Killed in Solo-Vehicle Rollover Crash on Highway 1 North of Swanton RoadTwo people were killed in a rollover crash involving a single vehicle on Highway 1 in Santa Cruz County early Saturday morning, May 24, 2025.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred around 4:00 a.m. on Highway 1, just north of Swanton Road.

Authorities stated that a Chrysler 200 was traveling southbound at an undetermined speed when it veered into the northbound lane for unknown reasons. The vehicle then struck a guardrail, crashed into a dirt embankment, and overturned, coming to rest on Highway 1.

Two occupants were inside the Chrysler during the crash. Both sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene.

CHP reported that the cause of the crash remains under investigation. It is currently unknown whether drugs, alcohol, or lack of seatbelt use were contributing factors.
