A 35-year-old man was killed and a 40-year-old woman was injured when a truck overturned on Highway 299 west of County Road 73 in Modoc County on Saturday afternoon, May 24, 2025.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 2:05 p.m. when a 2003 Ford F-150 drifted out of the westbound lane of Highway 299 and onto the north shoulder before overturning.
Both the driver and the passenger, who are residents of Alturas, were not properly restrained with seat belts at the time of the crash.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger sustained a leg laceration and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
CHP confirmed that drugs or alcohol are not suspected as contributing factors. The collision remains under investigation.
