A 69-year-old male pedestrian was killed after being struck by a vehicle in Lincoln Heights, Los Angeles, late Wednesday night, May 22, 2024.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the fatal collision happened at about 11:11 p.m. near Cesar Chavez Bridge and Mission Road.
LAPD officers said that a vehicle traveling westbound on Cesar Chavez struck a pedestrian who was apparently standing in the roadway. What he was doing prior to the accident remains unclear.
The elderly pedestrian suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have yet to release the decedent’s name, age, and place of origin.
The driver of the vehicle that hit the pedestrian was said to be a 24-year-old man. He remained at the scene and cooperated with the LAPD. There is no word yet if the driver was injured.
Additional information was not immediately available, and the authorities are still gathering all the necessary evidence they can find to determine the factors leading up to the deadly incident.
