[05-20-2024] Driver Killed, Passengers Hospitalized Following DUI Single-Vehicle Collision on Highway 99A driver was killed, and passengers were hospitalized following a DUI single-vehicle collision in Sutter County on early Monday morning, May 20, 2024. 

According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened around 2:00 a.m. on Highway 99 south of Richland Road. 

Authorities stated that a silver 2011 Acura RDX, driven by a 28-year-old man from Antioch, was traveling north on Highway 99. Witnesses told the authorities that the Acura was weaving heavily and was unable to maintain its lane. 

As the vehicle approached the north of the intersection of Lincoln Road, the Acura entered the paved center divide and sharply turned to the right. The vehicle drove onto the right shoulder, made a sharp left turn, and overturned. 

Police said that the driver was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected through the windshield during the collision. A 28-year-old passenger and a 3-year-old girl were transported to the nearby hospital. 

Drugs appear to be the factor in the collision. 

No further information was released. Investigations are ongoing.
