A woman was killed after being struck by a vehicle on the southbound 605 Freeway in Irwindale early Sunday morning, May 17, 2026.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 5:50 a.m. on the southbound 605 Freeway north of Rivergrade Road.
Authorities stated that dispatchers received reports of a woman walking near the center divider and in the middle traffic lanes. Witnesses reported that she appeared to be waving her hands in an apparent attempt to get the attention of passing motorists.
At approximately 5:58 a.m., officers reported that the pedestrian was down near the right shoulder of the freeway. A vehicle was found stopped near the divider. Investigators also noted that an unidentified vehicle was parked on the right shoulder near the scene, though it remains unclear whether the woman was associated with it prior to the incident.
The investigation remains ongoing.
