A pedestrian was killed after being struck by multiple vehicles, including a big rig, near August, San Joaquin County, early Friday morning, May 17, 2024.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal accident happened at about 4:46 a.m. along southbound Highway 99 near the Cherokee Road offramp.
CHP officers said that the pedestrian was hit by a big rig traveling at around 50 mph before being struck by additional vehicles while the truck was pulling over. There is no word yet on how many vehicles in total were involved in the incident.
The pedestrian, who remains unidentified, died as a result of the accident. It is still unclear what he was doing along the roadway at the time of the crash.
The driver of the big rig appeared to be uninjured. CHP confirmed that the driver was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs when the crash occurred.
