A 35-year-old woman was killed, and a 35-year-old driver was injured following a single-vehicle crash near Highway 20, Nevada County, on early Saturday morning, May 11, 2024.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened around 2:45 a.m. near South Ponderosa overcrossing in Nevada County.
Authorities stated that the two were making a DoorDash delivery when the driver, identified as 35-year-old Josiah M., fell asleep at the wheel. As a result, the car left the north side of the highway and crashed into a series of trees.
Emergency personnel declared the 35-year-old woman dead at the scene, and the driver was transported to Roseville Hospital with severe injuries.
Police said both victims were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash. Drugs and alcohol do not appear as factors of the collision.
No further information was released, and the authorities are gathering all the necessary details to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision.
