[05-06-2024] Woman Injured Following Hit-And-Run Vehicle Collision in Northeast Bakersfield A woman was injured following a hit-and-run vehicle collision in northeast Bakersfield on Monday afternoon, May 6, 2024. 

According to the Bakersfield Police Department, the collision happened in the area of Niles Street and Union Avenue. 

Authorities stated that a woman inside the vehicle struck by the hit-and-run driver sustained minor injuries and was transported to the nearest hospital for treatment. Additionally, while responding to the crash, the deputies received reports of gunshots fired. 

As a result, several streets near the scene were blocked. Police said the hit-and-run suspect tried to conceal himself but was then found suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was declared dead at the scene. 

Further information regarding the incident has yet to be released by the authorities. Investigations are ongoing.
