[05-04-2025] Passenger Killed, Driver Arrested for DUI After Crash on Highway 85 Near Almaden Expressway in San JoseA man was killed and a woman was arrested on suspicion of DUI following a solo-vehicle crash in San Jose on Sunday night, May 4, 2025.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 8:06 p.m. on Highway 85 north of Almaden Expressway.

A black 2014 Volkswagen Tiguan was traveling southbound when the driver veered off the right side of the roadway, traveled up an embankment, and overturned. 

Authorities said the male passenger, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle and pinned underneath.

Emergency personnel responded, and the man was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, a 48-year-old woman from San Jose, sustained minor injuries and was transported to Valley Medical Center.

Authorities arrested the driver on suspicion of driving under the influence. The identity of the deceased passenger has not yet been publicly released pending notification of the next of kin.

The crash remains under investigation.
