According to the Fresno Police Department, the deadly crash happened around 9:00 p.m. near Fashion Fair Mall.

Officers said that they attempted to pull over a vehicle for not having their headlights on near the First Street and Gettysburg Avenue intersection when its driver suddenly sped off. The car then reportedly went into the residential area near Fashion Fair Mall and through a park near Santa Ana Avenue.

After that, the car struck a woman and a man before driving off again and later crashing into a pole near the intersection of Santa Ana Avenue and Thesta Street. The occupants of the now-crashed vehicle then immediately got out and ran off to escape police.

The two pedestrians who were struck both suffered major injuries. Officers confirmed that the woman, who remains unnamed, died at the scene due to her injuries, while the man, who was in his 30s, was transported to a hospital in critical condition.

The two men responsible for the hit-and-run are still at large.

Further details were not immediately provided, and the authorities are still gathering all the necessary information to determine the factors leading up to the fatal accident.
