A 53-year-old man was killed in a crash involving an allegedly impaired driver in Imperial on Sunday morning, April 26, 2026.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred at around 5:05 a.m. on State Route 111, north of Worthington Road.
Authorities stated that the victim was stopped at a red light in a 2022 Toyota Corolla when a 2025 Honda Civic traveling southbound at a high rate of speed failed to stop and collided with the rear of the vehicle.
The driver of the Toyota, who was wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Honda, a 22-year-old man, sustained major injuries and was airlifted to a hospital for treatment.
Investigators reported that impairment was a factor in the crash. The identity of the deceased has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
