[04-26-2025] Pedestrian Killed After Being Struck By Vehicle in OxnardA 60-year-old man died after being struck by a vehicle while crossing the intersection of Oxnard Boulevard and Gonzales Road in Oxnard on Saturday night, April 26, 2025.

According to the Oxnard Police Department, the collision occurred around 8:00 p.m. near Pacifica High School. 

The pedestrian, identified as Avelino O., was crossing the roadway outside of a marked crosswalk when he was hit by a car.

Officers and emergency personnel arrived to find the man in the roadway. He was transported to Ventura County Medical Center in critical condition and later succumbed to his injuries the following day.

Police said the driver, a 22-year-old Oxnard resident, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Preliminary findings indicated that the driver was traveling eastbound on Gonzales Road and entered the intersection with a green light when the collision occurred.

Authorities noted that the pedestrian was believed to be trying to reach buckets of flowers left on the median. Speed and impairment were not considered factors in the crash.

The incident remains under investigation.
