[04-14-2026] Riverside County, CA – One Killed, Six Injured in Semi-Truck Collision on I-10 in Palm Desert

One person was killed, and six others were injured after a semi-truck collided with a cement truck on the Interstate 10 Sonny Bono Freeway in Palm Desert, Riverside County, on Tuesday morning, April 14, 2026.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred just after 7:45 a.m. when an eastbound big rig veered through the center divider on I-10 just west of Washington Street, for reasons still under investigation. The truck then collided with a cement truck, killing the driver of the cement truck.

Medics and firefighters responded to the scene, treating six individuals, with one confirmed fatality. The driver of the semi-truck was transported to Desert Regional Hospital with unknown injuries.

Both east- and westbound I-10 were severely impacted, with only one lane open in each direction. The crash also involved additional vehicles, including a jeep, and led to the closure of the Washington Street on-ramp. 

The closure, which resulted in a four-hour SIG Alert, was expected to last until after 12:30 p.m. Tuesday. 

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
