An adult woman was killed, and a man was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving after a two-vehicle crash in Fresno County on Friday evening, April 3, 2026.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 6:30 p.m. at the intersection of Clovis and North avenues.
Emergency crews arrived to find a female passenger critically injured. Despite life-saving efforts by paramedics, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators report that a Ford Expedition was traveling north on Clovis Avenue and entered the intersection against a red light. At the same time, a Mercedes-Benz CLA250 was traveling west on North Avenue.
The vehicles collided in the intersection, causing significant damage. The Ford came to rest in the center divider of Clovis Avenue, while the Mercedes left the roadway and stopped in an orchard at the northwest corner.
The driver of the Mercedes, 23-year-old Wilmer L., was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. The driver of the Ford sustained moderate injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Despite the DUI arrest, investigators believe the driver of the Ford to be the primary cause of the crash for failing to stop at the red light.
The investigation is ongoing.
