An 88-year-old man was killed in a hit-and-run crash while walking in a marked crosswalk in South Los Angeles on Wednesday evening, April 1, 2026.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the incident occurred around 7:35 p.m. at the intersection of Avalon Boulevard and East 49th Street.
Authorities said a possible black sedan was traveling northbound on Avalon Boulevard when it struck the pedestrian, who was crossing eastbound on the north side of East 49th Street.
The driver fled the scene without stopping to provide aid or identify themselves.
Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
A reward of up to $50,000 is available through the city’s Hit-and-Run Reward Program for information leading to the suspect’s identification, apprehension, and conviction or civil resolution.
