[03-28-2026] San Luis Obispo County, CA – One Killed, Five Injured in Crash Near Cuesta Grade.webpOne person was killed, and five others were injured in a crash near the base of Cuesta Grade in San Luis Obispo on Saturday, March 28, 2026.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 9:20 p.m. when the driver of a Toyota Camry attempted to make a left turn from Higuera Ranch onto the southbound lanes of Highway 101. The Camry turned in front of an oncoming Toyota Highlander, causing a collision in the northbound lanes.

The Camry, with major damage, was disabled and facing the wrong way in the #1 northbound lane, with no working lights. The front passenger of the Camry tried to exit the vehicle but was struck by an oncoming Hyundai.

The impact caused the passenger to be thrown into the southbound lanes, where she was later pronounced dead. Her name has not been released.

Both adult drivers and three children were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor to moderate injuries.

CHP officials stated that drugs or alcohol were not believed to have contributed to the crash.

The investigation is ongoing.
