[03-01-2026] San Diego County, CA – Woman Airlifted After Being Struck on I-5 in Oceanside

A woman was airlifted to a hospital after she was injured while changing a tire on her car along the San Diego Freeway in Oceanside on Sunday afternoon, March 1, 2026.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash was reported at around 4:52 p.m. on the southbound San Diego (5) Freeway at Las Pulgas near the Camp Pendleton Marine Base.

Authorities said the woman was on the right shoulder changing a tire when a pickup truck struck either her or her vehicle. The driver of the pickup told investigators that he hit the car, not the woman.

The injured woman was transported by air ambulance to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla for treatment. 

The incident remains under investigation.
