[02-27-2026] Placer County, CA – One Dead in Four-Vehicle Crash on Highway 89 South of Tahoe City.webpOne person was killed in a four-vehicle crash that shut down Highway 89 south of Tahoe City, near the entrance to Olympic Valley in Placer County, on February 27, 2026.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash was reported just before 6:50 a.m., about half a mile south of Olympic Valley Road, the main turnoff for skiers heading to Palisades Tahoe. 

Authorities reported that four vehicles were involved, including a white van that rolled over.

Firefighters worked to extricate a victim who was trapped inside a vehicle. Officers confirmed one fatality at the scene. The victim’s identity is expected to be released by the Placer County Coroner’s Office.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
