Jose G., a 65-year-old resident of Bell, was killed, and five others were hospitalized following a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 10 west of Bob Hope Drive in Cathedral City on Saturday morning, February 21, 2026.
According to the California Highway Patrol, officers received reports around 6:37 a.m. of a crash on the eastbound Interstate 10.
Investigators said a Lexus traveling in the number one lane was reported to be driving recklessly when it veered right and collided with a Toyota traveling in the number three lane, with five occupants.
The impact caused the Toyota to overturn onto its roof and become submerged in standing water near the roadway. The Lexus came to rest upright in the water.
Four passengers from the Toyota were able to exit the vehicle, while the driver remained trapped underwater. He was extricated and transported to Desert Regional Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.
The driver of the Lexus self-extricated and was transported to a hospital for evaluation before being arrested on suspicion of DUI.
Tow trucks removed both vehicles from the water.
The investigation remains ongoing.
What A Lawyer Can Do For You
Many victims put off calling a lawyer even if they sustain injuries after an accident. However, lawyers can help you in many ways. They can provide you with police reports, CCTV footage, and witness statements to strengthen your case. Your attorney will also negotiate with insurance companies to get you fair compensation. The best part is that they will do all of these things for you at no upfront cost. So if you’re injured in an accident, hire a personal injury attorney to recover medical bills, car repair costs, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
