Two drivers were critically injured in a head-on collision on State Route 70 near Yankee Hill, Butte County, early Friday morning, February 20, 2026.
According to the California Highway Patrol, officers responded to the scene at around 5:06 a.m. on the West Branch Bridge, which crosses over a branch of Lake Oroville.
The collision involved a Ford Maverick and a converted Ford box truck. Both vehicles sustained major front-end damage, and significant debris was scattered across the roadway. Each vehicle had only the driver inside.
CAL FIRE/Butte County and Butte County EMS responded promptly, providing medical assistance. Both drivers were transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
CHP officers are actively investigating the incident, which has led to one-way traffic control in the area. Motorists are advised to expect delays and exercise caution while passing through.
Caltrans District 2 will clear debris once the investigation is completed. The details are still being investigated. No further information is immediately available.
