According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred at 4:09 p.m., when a silver Hyundai traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of Highway 1 collided head-on with a white Lexus near the Morro Bay Boulevard off-ramp. The impact caused one of the vehicles to catch fire, but by 4:17 p.m., all occupants had safely exited the vehicles.

Both drivers suffered minor to moderate injuries. Authorities reported that alcohol does not appear to have been a factor in the crash.

The CHP continues to investigate the crash.
